What makes a curbless shower different to build?
The waterproofing has to run well past the shower itself. With no curb, nothing holds water inside the enclosure, so the membrane carries across the whole bathroom floor and up the walls beyond the splash zone. The drain also needs either a recess formed in the slab or the finished floor raised to create fall.
Curbless is where the tile setter and the plumber have to agree before either one starts. Drain location, slope direction, and membrane type are a single decision, and taking them out of order produces a shower that drains toward the door.
Can a bathroom be remodeled without moving the plumbing?
Yes, and keeping fixtures where they are is usually the more economical scope. During preconstruction we work out whether the layout you want fits the existing rough-in or whether it needs drains moved. That one question separates two very different projects in the same Miami-Dade bathroom.
Drain relocation is where cost steps up, and on the slab-on-grade homes common across South Florida it means opening concrete rather than working between joists.
