Who inspects a steel connection, and is it the building inspector?
Not always. Structural steel welding and high-strength bolted connections often require a special inspection by a licensed professional engaged for that purpose, separate from the municipal inspector. On residential work this catches owners out, because it is an appointment somebody has to schedule and pay for before the connection gets covered.
Whether it applies depends on the building and what the approved drawings call for, so confirm it with the engineer of record at permit rather than assuming either way. Sequence it wrongly and finished work has to come back open.
How does steel get into a tight residential site?
Plan it before you order it. A beam that cannot reach its bearing points is a schedule problem no crew improvises around, so fabrication length, delivery route, and placement access get worked out together on constrained Miami-Dade lots. Sometimes that changes the member itself before anything is bought.
